digital doodles

After so long, I finally decided to invest in a graphics tablet.
I've been contemplating to get one for the longest time, but because of my tendency to get bored of material things very quickly, I decided to wait until I was triggered by a situation that required me to get one-- which was my housemate leaving the UK.

I know, you must be thinking, 'but what the heck does that have to do with anything?'

I basically promised to give her all my 'secret' recipes of poison food that I've made for us both in the past 3 years, and thought that rather than just writing it down in a notebook that's going to end up in grease and oil eventually, I would personalise it into a laminated book with all my crazy food doodles to make it something worth cherishing when she's making Malaysian food for her future husband and kids.
Yes I know, cue cheesy Twilight Music.

Anyhoo, here's my first attempt at doodling with a tablet.
I am still so very clumsy with the stylus pen but I'm quite pleased with the outcome!
Hopefully this will mark many more exciting doodling times to come.

This is basically the lunch that I have been having 5 days a week for 3 months straight since starting at my current work place. A farm of lettuce, a chunk of chicken breast meat, croutons, caesar dressing and loads of shaved parmesan cheese. My food order is so predictable that my colleagues immediately know to whom this salad belongs to the moment they see it in the kitchen.
I always think I've eaten enough caesar salads to last me a life time but the very next day at work, guess what I end up ordering?
Caesar salad!

  1. Yay! Go Kim! Best kan? :D

What software do you use at the moment? I recommend trying Paint Tool SAI, it has these brushes that can blend colours together like real paint. Faaancy. I think it's available as a free download.

  2. Don't think I will be using a mouse in a long time ;) It's amazing! I'm still not too familiar with the programs that's the best for tablets but for this doodle I used Illustrator+Photoshop+Wacom bamboo paper. Apparently Coreldraw is good for freehand stuff too? But not sure they have it for MAc :/ will look up Paint Tool SAI though, thanks!
