I've been hearing about the popularity of this book.
A friend who was going through a marriage annulment a year ago told me how inspiring this book was, and funny enough it wasn't until recently that I thought about watching the film and ordering the book off Amazon. (Got it as a used book for £0.01, so only had to pay for postage, sweet!)
The movie was.... OK.. Like how most,if not all movies are when converted from best sellers to the big screen. Many interesting parts were hacked off to keep to the time frame, so it turned out to be the kind of movie that I would watch out of defeat after channel surfing for too long.
The book on the other hand, was a pretty good read. Admittedly, it's not the kind of read that makes you feel wide awake at 4am as though a revelation has just been unraveled before you, but it was a pleasant read about the journey of a woman in despair who finally mended herself and found balance in her life.
I've read terrible reviews about it on Amazon, surprisingly-- most of it criticising the author for her me-me-me sob story... I think people are missing the point that this book is meant to be about her personal journey in finding composure and balance after her divorce.
Anyhow, true to the title Elizabeth Gilbert went to Italy to eat her heart out(I would love to do this), then proceeded to an ashram India to pray and find spirituality, and then finally to Bali to find balance, where she also found Love. My favourite bits were from Eat and Love, maybe because the setting of Italy and South East Asia are places that I can vividly relate to from experience, and also maybe because I'm not really venturing deeply for a spiritual search at the moment.
Most of the content I could relate very well to, and I hope that this is probably what my journals would end up looking like if I decided to compile them one day in 30 years' time.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a little boost of self love, inspiration and positivity.
Got these guys to cheer me up during my 2 days off as I've been sick this whole week with a cold thanks to the English weather not being able to decide if it wants winter to stay or summer to come.
But now I'm questioning if they're actually making me feel worse (hayfever?) sitting here in my room and showering near invisible pollen all over my room.
Oh well!
Oh well!
