Whenever someone drops by for a visit it's traditional routine for us to take them to Mockturtle (amazing cream tea) followed by a walk down Brighton Pier. There is one particular ride at the end of the pier that is unmissable and never fails to create mixed reactions among guests who come to visit. It stands out sorely like a crane in the middle of the sea and can be spotted from miles and miles away. 4 people get strapped down on opposite ends, and are made to experience a force of over 3.8Gs via 360 degree rotations in the air.
You also get to dangle about 130feet in the air with nothing but the sea underneath you.
Usually, because the walk to the pier comes right after a full breakfast,
we all come to the agreement that regurgitated food will end up rotating 360 degrees with us,
so we all ditch the idea of going on this ride. (And I always secretly thank God in my heart because I am PETRIFIED of heights. This is coming from the girl whose hands get clammy just by thinking of heights.)
Well.. today was the day that our beloved guest came in the form of a bubbly, excited friend who didn't care if projectile vomit would make its grand appearance or not. Before we knew it, we were slotting money into the ticket machine to get three tickets to the Extreme Scream Super Booster.
Extreme Scream Super Booster my ass.
I COMPLETELY lost my voice while being spun 6 times on that ride.
My housemate, who was behind me facing the opposite direction probably thought I had died in my seat.
Dangling in the air for a few seconds was actually nothing compared to the drop.
By the last spin (which was the fastest and the most intense gravity pull) I was ready to accept that my guts were going to just fall off into the sea and get picked on by Brighton's vicious donut-snatching seagulls.
Thankfully, they didn't.
And thankfully, nobody puked.
After three years, housemate and I finally got on this ride that has been on our 'Things to do in Brighton' list and I finally did something that got me way out of my comfort zone.
I don't think I'll ever do this again,though.
Give me something more mellow and less traumatizing,
like watching the Brighton Naked Bike Ride.
