Reading list for bed

Ever since taking a year out,
it's been harder to recover from the holidays to dive back into uni work.
Caffeine, no matter how much, does nothing to me, as my mind's already set itself to fall asleep every time I have good intentions to start working on something!
And let me tell you that snow days are all the more distracting as they make you want to just perch on the window sill all day and watch millions of little flurries fall from the sky.
Must persevere.

Anyway out of procrastination today I bought two books off amazon;-
A classic: Catcher in the Rye

 and
Remnants of Auschwitz by Giorgio Agamben.

Shamefully I admit that at age 24 I have yet to dive into the many classics that I know by name but not by content, so I thought Catcher in the Rye could be a good starting point.

As for the latter, I love to read and research about WWII, the Holocaust and the history between East/West Germany. It will be historically appropriate since I'll be heading to Berlin for my study trip in February so it will hopefully give a little historical overview before we step into a Jewish Museum perhaps? I used one or two pieces from Giorgio Agamben in my dissertation, and he has written some in depth, philosophical and brain-wringing pieces about the human behaviour so this should be an eye opener.

I'm going to sound like a geek but I just love absorbing all kinds of history and culture, especially hearing about them first hand from my colleagues at work who come from all parts of Europe. I used to remember loathing exam questions and essays about the disappearing traditions and cultures in Malaysia but now I see their (the traditions and cultures, not exam questions!) importance and how we should take pride and keep them alive for future generations.
Only after being on the other side have I learnt to appreciate this part of life and I vow that when I make a return to Malaysia I will make sure that I explore and indulge in an in depth and more cultural side of home :)

Yes! Or in my case, gulung dalam duvet and thank God for inventing warmth. I too am struggling with getting back into student life after a year out, walaupun logically, being in the office 8-5 every day, running a strict routine should really help me put some structure into my current life.... but no. I don't know how my brain works anymore. :P

Warm hugs and prayers from Canterbury! Miss you Kim! Pray for us, we still have last term's portfolio review comingg. T:
