Womanly pride

Let's face it, it's not easy being a woman.
We get bloated and PMS-ey every month, our shoes always hurt,
we have to go through the pleasure of hair removal while men get to walk freely with their rainforest in full display, and we get the blame for most things: for taking too long to get ready, being overly emotional,  excessive shopping, excessive nagging...and the list goes on.

Someone once joked that the root of all evil isn't money, it's women.
Well...I guess it didn't cross his mind that his existence in this world attributes to womankind.

International Women's Day has just gone by, and I think it's a great reminder of the strengths and values that we women naturally possess, and how much women have come a long way in the struggle for gender equality. Sometimes it's so easy to take for granted how lucky we are to be liberated women living in developed environments, while there are still women out there living in the shadows and oppression of proud men. Can you imagine not being able to go to school and get basic education, take part in sports, drive, work or vote?

It bothers me sometimes when I come across the odd man who obsessively believes in male superiority. Someone I know once told me that he would prefer to have his wife look after the home while he chased his dreams, to which the feminist in me hot headed-ly replied that he should switch roles with his woman every now and then and be the house husband while she gets the chance to chase hers. If you think about it, even mother nature intends for females to take over every once in awhile-- female praying mantis cannibalise and eat their male counterparts after mating, and male anglerfish are simply parasitic and live to attach themselves to the females while eventually shrivelling up to a pair of testicles to fertilise her eggs. Ok at this point you might be thinking..is Kim on crack?

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that men and women should really have equal access to choices and opportunities in life. Although there will always be heated discussions about who's better than who, it's time to face the truth that without either one of us, the other won't exist. Men and women are designed to compliment one another through their differences, so rather than put one higher on the hierarchy than the other, why not work together through these choices and opportunities to create a wholesome, dynamic and better world?

All the same, appreciate your woman because:

1.Women have high threshold for pain and are able to grow a baby inside of them, give birth and get back to business.
I never understood why my brother used to fear tweezers coming towards his leg hair. Or why dude made waxing sound so horrific. Then I thought about the pain we women go through in our lives that men never will-- waxing/tweezing/threading/period cramps/labour. If your man pokes fun at your womanly pains next time, go on Youtube and make him watch the real life, uncensored, and unstaged videos of women in labour (Warning: Very graphic. I stumbled across one of the videos by accident and ended up watching the rest because I find them fascinating and horrifying at the same time)

2. Women are better at multitasking, thus ensuring that things are always up to date and in control.
Possibly explains why most secretaries and personal assistants are women. I've yet to find a man who can paint their toe nails+talk on the phone+research+carry on filing all at the same time.

3. Women have stronger immune systems (thanks to estrogen), and will always have the strength and willpower to cater to their family regardless.

4. Women are wired to be more compassionate.
(Although also misunderstood to be a little too emotional sometimes.)

5. "Women are the reason men get out of bed. Without women, men wouldn't even bathe."
-Steve Harvey-

Happy (belated) Women's Day
