I'm turning into my mum.
I used to batter her for buying unnecessary things just because she liked the packaging.
She used to buy such random things, like jam which would sit in the fridge for months-- just because she wanted the cute, small jars to keep. I have to raise my white flag because nowadays I find myself walking into stores and biting my lower lip to refrain myself from purchasing things that I am sure would be of no use to me later on.
It's true, in most cases you pay more for the packaging than the product, but hey, those people who did the branding must have done something right because nice-looking things are just so appealing that heck,
you can put cow poop in a jar, put an amazingly quirky label on it and I would still be fooled to buy it because it's just screaming for my name with that yummy package.
Jamie Oliver's store does just that to anyone that enters it.
(Not the cow poop of course! He sells amazing stuff to begin with, though they are quite up there with the price range) but the packaging done by Pearlfisher is just so amazing that you would willingly spend your life savings on random things in that store and possibly save all the packaging to make a shrine.
I love the hand-written, very personalised effect,
doesn't feel like you have generic supermarket jars sitting in your kitchen.
Rather, it feels like someone has cooked up a storm and labeled their magic on them.
And what's this? The Gut Oggau wine packaging by Jung Von Matt
what a perfect gift for the host of a dinner party!

I'm no big fan of wine but I would definitely purchase these for the sake of their labels!
Even minimalistic designs look amazing with the right colour combination and presentation.
would love to possess these-- for their art/ my consumption, and that's a tough choice to make!
Also, I hate pork but I love this advertisement, especially that little piglet on the G.
What a difference advertising makes!
Goes to show just how much human beings are influenced by what they perceive with their eyes.
Will definitely make a mental note to start personalising my home stuff from now on.

I'm not sure how the housemate will perceive me, sitting on my living room carpet doodling on 50 random jars. :)
omg same. i am a sucker for well designed and minimalistic packaging. it just makes u feel so 'well-connected' with it. it plays its role well in being personal with its client la! even the books i buy. i love nice covers and have great urge to get them. but since i like a lot of things, so i'll narrow my books down to nice covers, followed by ratings on amazon/books reviewer etc :p If not i'll be buying the whole library by the end of my 20s!
ReplyDeleteKan! I bet we pay 90% of the price for packaging. So much for dont judge a book by its cover..sorry to whoever created this saying but it's the 21st century materialistic world :P
