I'm back, and still recuperating post hand-in.
Recuperating in a sense that I keep falling asleep at random times in random places, the armchair being the most popular. Probably my body's way of paying back all my sleep debts for the past 3 weeks.
Mi padres is here on a visit and has had the misfortune to witness me wither and die slowly at my table, particularly on the last 2 days in which I had no sleep at all. The kind little soul has been spoiling me nevertheless, so I have been well fed and spoilt taken care of. The only problem is that I will have to acclimatise to living on my own again when he leaves, seeing that I've morphed into a complete lazybum over the past 3 weeks =/.
Things have been rather depressing all over Europe this summer.
From the massacre of teens in Norway to the critically failing economy to the sporadic riots across England in the past few days. All one can ask is "What is this world coming to?" We're supposedly living in such an advanced world but with morality so messed up it seems like we're heading back to the Middle Ages again.
I'm sure everyone has watched the video of a fellow Malaysian being mugged while injured in the midst of the riot. What those youngsters did to him was terrible, same as what these scums have done to families who have lost loved ones, homes and hard earned businesses. Something is clearly wrong with the current generation of youngsters, and the tell tale signs have been there, but nobody had expected things to escalate to this point. I get on the bus and see teenagers pushing prams, shouting and swearing at their toddlers. I've seen schoolkids swear profanities at their parents. I've seen kids hit their parents at the supermarket tills. I've come across 15 year old customer who told me off and swore at me with no respect whatsoever, and got his family of 5 to walk out without paying. The sad bit is that these people are the ones who will bring a new generation of hooligans into the country.
I'm not fooled and I know these minorities don't account for the whole of England, I have met way too many wonderful people here. Despite the terrible ordeal Asyraf's case has also brought the kindness of Britons to the surface, with websites and organizations willing to raise funds to help him through recovery. Kind comments have come from England all the way to Australia. A Spanish dental team had even left a comment on one of the sites saying they would be willing to sponsor his flight and treatment to rewire his jaw and teeth! Maybe all of humanity is not loss after all? Hopefully England will be able to sort these little pockets of imbeciles, it would be a shame to watch this country falter because of the few bad apples.

Please be safe Kimmy. :( Risau sangat how the country I used to live in suddenly looked so different in the light of the riots. All the best too for your results...
ReplyDeleteSomeone shared this article on Facebook http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2025393/UK-riots-Haroon-Jahan-death-Legacy-society-believes-nothing.html , lemme know what you think of it. :)
Thanks Neesah, hope i make it this time. yea now it's really out in the light how messed up things are in western families, though I'm sure not everyone is raised like the way these atrocious kids were. It's just sad, this is NOTHING like what i used to imagine England to be (too much Enid Blyton and old proper speaking English films/books of the old days!) But come to think of it, everywhere in the world is starting to go a little mad too, makes me wonder what will happen to this world 10 years frm now :(
ReplyDeleteI read the article, and it's quite rare (and great) that for once, an article brings together the positives of religions rather than bash how one or the other can be so extreme. Usually all that covers the headlines are debates on extremists, or left wing crazies, and blaming one another, and i've to say those kind of articles have actually put me off the whole subject of religion and how mankind would kill over something that taught them to love. That article restored a little bit of positivity So perhaps good things will come out of this terrible riot after all :) thanks for sharing xx
