Travelogue:Ibiza

How did this trip started? With a cancelled flight and a frantic rush from Luton to Stansted Airport which is one and a half hours apart to catch the next flight, which, btw, was DELAYED.
The reason for the canceled flight?
There was no pilot, although we secretly suspected that the pilot was dejected from the loss of England that day during the England-Germany match. :P

Thankfully, we finally got on the flight to Ibiza,
which was the most happening flight we have ever sat on.
Think VERY noisy, excited people who cannot wait to party.
Think people who loaded on alcohol before the plane took off.
Think people vomiting halfway, and people CLAPPING at the chap,
and people cheering when the plane touched down in Ibiza.

Any mention of Ibiza and the first that comes to mind is the partying, and then the beaches.
Funny enough, our entire stay was more of the excitement to conquer the 54 beaches on the island rather than the partying, which we only slipped in on the last night.
Ibiza is nothing short of beautiful, and unjustified by words.
It is PRISTINE, and so incredibly clean and beautiful that it's so hard to believe such a place exists in this world. People from Kota Kinabalu would actually be able to relate to it considering it is so familiar in so many ways i.e. the whole Gaya-Street, KK Town, Kampung Air area but it is of course, 100% cleaner. I could have sworn I saw Wisma Merdeka in a distance, if not for the fact that the 10 people passing me by were Caucasian and speaking in Spanish.
It was actually nice to find a piece of home, away from home.

A striking thing to note about Ibiza, is the fact that people are so comfortable going nude in the beaches, even if it is not a nude beach to begin with. On the first morning when we did our own clever excursion up the cliffs in our lousy, fraying, thinning and gripless slippers,
we came across a naked man who just sat there sunbathing. Shocking, of course, but it all became insignificant after seeing SO MANY naked men AND women just walking on the beach like it's the most natural thing in the world. There was actually a joke that by the end of the trip, we had probably seen nudity in all shapes and sizes that our future boyfriend/girlfriend will probably kill themselves when we say "apa, itu saja kau ada?!" :P

We,by the way, felt so overdressed at the beach that people actually looked at us when we walked past them. Either that or the fact that we were the only 3 Asians walking down the beach.
So what exactly did we do in Ibiza besides roasting ourselves unintentionally in the 38degree heat? we kayak-ed.
watched the sunset at Cafe del marthey had some serious adrenaline addiction with jumping off cliffs and high ends.
Thomas, unfortunately, got his foot struck by a bloody sea urchin.
Didi, the only one who had a diving license, managed to do 2 dives on the fourth day while Thomas and I randomly got on a ferry to another end of the island. :)

We ate a lot of amazing food. Didi was the most adventurous out of us three, she had a different dish for dinner each day whilst Thomas and I just got hooked to Paellas the first time we tried it.
So we ate Paellas for dinner for... i dunno, 4 nights out of 5? :P
Um, this is Didi's grilled rabbit. Might I add that if you were to order any animal in Ibiza, please be prepared to be served the entire animal? Didi had an encounter with a massive squid, and an entire baby rabbit. She practically had to wrestle with her dinner before it got into her mouth.
And I am terribly ashamed to say I ate a bite of her rabbit although I think they're so adorable and furry and cute alive and I am even more ashamed to say it tastes better than chicken!! :-O!
Let's hope I will never be reincarnated as a rabbit. or a squid.

Yes, we also watched Spain vs. Portugal, and it was such a spectacular event in the restaurant itself. It's amusing watching the waiters getting so angry at the footballers, and seeing the owners ring a massive iron bell when Spain scored their goals, and the owners hugging the customers when Spain won. And the best of all, the cars honking all night throughout the city.

Oh yes, might i also mention that while in guide books, it is noted that Ibiza tap water is safe for drinking. unless you're a fan of salt water i recommend you stash up 5-8litre bottles from supermarkets like Eroski or Spar and re fill them because water can be overpriced in small tourist-filled cafes.

Speaking of costs, undeniably Ibiza can be quite a costly holiday considering so many foreigners go there during the summer. Dinner on its own can be nearly 20 euros in one go, so if you're thinking to save up supermarket visits are pretty handy for brunches. Of course, if you're thinking of going clubbing all the way, keep in mind that club entries can be 30 euros, or even 50 euros dependng on the time you enter the club. transportation, ferry rides and water sports are pretty reasonable considering how far apart one end of the island is to another. Flea markets have pretty good deals for souvenirs and if you visit parts of Ibiza away from Ibiza Town i.e. Santa Eularia, things are cheaper there and it is also less of a tourist area which gives more of a Spain feel.

San Antonio is ironically filled with so many British people, including those who do the business, that you feel like you're back in England again. One more thing to mention,
when you're in Ibiza, make sure you experience the most of the island, culture and people.
stray away from restaurants that do Thai/Chinese/British food because heck, you came all the way to such a beautiful island, you should be going Spanish all the way.
It's a shame that people still stuck to their fish and chips/pizza when the best Paellas and sea food are there waiting for you!

It was the best get away i have ever had in so long and I am so glad to have gone with 2 other friends who were flexible finance and adventure-wise. Bear in mind that group trips are not always easy especially when everyone harbours different interests but i'm glad the three of us are just so bad decision wise (or so laid back, to put it in a nice way) that we all agreed to anything and everything and had the best time! None of us wanted to go home!

Dreaming of Ibiza,
Kim
